Bear from the Revenant given tip to pip Dicaprio to Oscar.
Following the recent announcement of the Oscar nominations, speculation has increased as to whether Dicaprio will finally win his first Academy Award. His nomination for best actor comes from his role in the Revenant, which has itself been nominated for twelve awards.
However, it appears that he is not favourite to win in his category, as the bear who also stars in the Revenant has been given the tip to pip him to the prize. The Russian bear actor is called Kevin.
The bear, a master of Russian stage acting and the Stanislavskian method, spent years preparing for the role. Having originally been cast for the part eventually played by Tom Hardy, the bear finally agreed to take on his most challenging role yet; a bear. This marks an amazing point into his rehabilitation into acting and society. It follows his struggles with drugs after becoming friends with Charlie Sheen, which culminated in him eating part of Sandra Bullock.
Speaking in an interview he said, “It has been a long and a hard road for me. After the incident I spent several years as Silvester Stallone’s stunt double and voice coach, sadly despite my best efforts he still cannot speak English fluently. It is with great pleasure that I return to the screen. Also, I can confirm the rumours, myself and Leo did not get on during filming, I think he felt threatened by my superior experience and talent. Needless to say our fight scene did get a bit out of hand, but it made fantastic viewing for the cameras. Now filming has ended we are firm friends, I wish Leo all the luck in the world with his quest to win an Oscar. For me, it doesn’t matter, I know I am good, but to be tipped is an honour nonetheless.”
After seeing the film, critics have unanimously agreed that it was the most convincing portrayal of a bear they have ever seen, thus thrusting Kevin into the limelight once again. He is now considered the favourite for best male actor at this year’s Academy Awards, and Leo’s wait for an Oscar looks set to continue. Poor Leo.
