BREAKING NEWS: Edinburgh Flipside claim to be first ever satirical publication
TEVIOT – A representative of Edinburgh Flipside has revealed that the satirical news source have now begun claims that they invented the genre of satire.
This news was uncovered in a response to rumours across the university that Flipside “claim to be the first satire at Edinburgh University when, like, they actually aren’t”. The discovery was made upon reading the original website description stating that Flipside were “the first satirical news source at the University of Edinburgh,” which the publication have now gone back on.
“The current description of our importance in the world of satire just doesn’t go far enough,” said Flipside’s co-founder and President Sarah Manavis. “Our initial aim was to promote an impression of humility, but following the recent gossip we’ve decided to reveal our true significance.”
“WE INVENTED SATIRE,” she added.
“That’s right,” confirmed Greg Lane, Manavis’ fellow founder and President. “Satire as a genre was the creation of Flipside. In fact we derived the word from a couple of components: Sa – the first two letters of Sarah’s name – and ‘tire’ – which is what responding to e-mails from self-important twats does to us.”
Suspicions that Flipside are not what they say they are have hit a new high. According to a study carried out by ‘Satire Surveillance’ (SS) an astonishing 30% of students believe Flipside is putting up a false front.
Of the remaining 70%, 20% looked a bit creepy, 10% proceeded to endlessly talk about themselves and the final 40% hadn’t heard of Flipside. Yet.
