Farewell, Sweet Prince: An Ode to Johnny Ross-Tatam
It has been a wild ride, my dear. Passionate, magical and at times even overwhelming, but finally the time has come for our glorious, benevolent leader, our one and only saint and saviour, and our beloved friend Johnny Ross-Tatam to leave his position as EUSA President, breaking our hearts a little as he does.
We’re serious this time. We even spelt his name right and everything. JRT has been a leader we can all believe in. The winning smile, diplomatic skills and personal touch of Barack Obama combined with the beauty, strength, bravery and heroism of Caitlyn Jenner.
He has sailed serenely through this year with a glint in his eye and a spring in his step, bringing wellbeing and positive change to all and uniting a campus so often ideologically divided. He touched all our lives, literally and spiritually, and none at Edinburgh University will soon forget the time they had living under his egalitarian rule.
In him we saw ourselves, only better.
The unbreakable bond he formed with his VPs, Imogen Wilson, Urte Macikene and future James Bond Andy Peel, has been a beautiful thing to behold, as these four behemoths of student politics united to Make EUSA Great Again. They have the strength, trust and crucially friendship that hold together all great teams, and at their core is Johnny. Leader. Lover. Friend.
And so, wherever you are, just sit for a moment and think about Johnny. Johnny Ross-Tatam. Jooonwah Rock-Steady. Jemima’s Roast-Potatoes. J-Rizzle. Janny Ran-Tatammytamtam. Jonty Reeez-Tat. Sit and think about everything he has done for you. The hours he put in, the sacrifices he made, and the love that poured forth from the bottomless well of his heart for a full 12 months, just so that you could feel more well. What. A. Babe.
In the quiet moments, sometimes, you will think of Him. When you are about to fall asleep; when you are lying under the stars, pondering the meaning of it all; when you are taking a huge and satisfying dump; these are the times when you will think of Johnny. And remember that He is up there, smiling at you.
On behalf of all Edinburgh students, as we are obviously their most respected mouthpiece, Edinburgh Flipside would like to thank Jononny Room-Stasis for his contribution to student life.
We love you Johnny, and we will miss you.
