Man who is bad at job loses job
Today in south-west London, a man who was very bad at his job got fired, meaning he no longer has a job. Jose Mourinho, now twice former manager at Chelsea FC, was really doing extremely badly at his job for several months. Chelsea were losing matches, world-class footballers were playing like amateurs, medical staff got offended and then legal-action was taken, referees got antagonised, accusations flew and fines got bandied about, and basically it all seemed like pantomime season come early.
After a string of 9 defeats in 16 matches in this season’s 16 Premier League, owner Roman Abramovich finally decided he had seen enough, even though Mourinho led Chelsea to the title and League Cup last season (back when he wasn’t terrible at his job). Chelsea went from swashbuckling champions to dozy stragglers in a matter of weeks, as a sense of antagonism, paranoia and mistrust has crept into the dressing room.
What next for Mourinho? There is talk of him not immediately returning to management, in order to take some time out to pursue his other dream of being the singer who provides evening entertainment on cruise ships. As for Chelsea, it is believed Abramovich is looking for a completely new managerial style at Chelsea, with a strong likelihood of him appointing aged rocker Neil Young, aged rocker Lou Reed, or aged rocker Joni Mitchell (former Spurs boss Juande Ramos has been touted, but has an outside shot at best).
