Miliband to pull out of TV leadership debates unless Socialist Workers’ Party are invited

Labour Party Ed Miliband has followed David Cameron in offering an ultimatum to TV bosses regarding the leadership debates due to be aired in the run-up to the UK General Election.

Last week David Cameron insisted that he would not participate in any televised debate unless the Green Party were invited, and Miliband has followed this by stating that he will not be involved unless all of the Central Committee of the far-left Socialist Workers’ Party are given podiums at each event.

This has started a trend of other party leaders insisting on the involvement of figures who they believe they could easily up-stage.

In a surprise move, UKIP’s Nigel Farage has demanded the involvement of Arsenal Football Club’s second choice, Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. The BBC’s Political Editor Nick Robinson has predicted that Farage will use Szczęsny as an example of the damage Eastern European immigration has on the UK’s workers, since Szczęsny earns upwards of a million pounds a year for sitting on a London bench each week.

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats has revealed that leader Nick Clegg will pull out of the debates all together, regardless of who is involved, since “there is nobody in the country who could make him look good.”

In an interview with Flipside, party president Tim Farron admitted that Lib Dem bigwigs had trialed a debate between Clegg and a piece of metamorphic rock at a recent party meeting, but even then the proceedings were still less than positive. “At least the rock’s silence made it mysterious and interesting,” said a visibly stressed Farron.

Former EUSA President Hugh Murdoch has contacted Flipside to say that he too will withdraw from the debates, unless Mike Shaw, whom he defeated in the 2013 EUSA Presidential election, is involved.

Unfortunately however, Farage has refused to participate if this occurs, stating: “I have an injunction preventing that yobbo coming within 150 yards of me.”
