Rector McColl feeling smug that no one notices he wasn’t properly elected
Flipside can report that Peter McColl, the rector of the University of Edinburgh, has been feeling particularly smug lately, as no one has noticed, or brought up the fact, that there was no real election for his position. This lack of discussion is despite the fact that, like Princess Anne, he was uncontested in his election. The job of the rector is to chair the court of the University of Edinburgh, the highest governing body in the University.
30 students in a room claiming to speak for the entire university last year passed a motion condemning Princess Anne’s election as Chancellor of Edinburgh University as undemocratic because no one stood against the Princess Royal.
McColl commented saying, “Yeah it’s a bit odd no one has noticed it. Then again, most people don’t really notice I’m here, I’m bit like the furniture in Old College. Sometimes I forget I’m here. Where am I?”
Women’s campaigner Stephanie Python said, “Princess Anne is just being targeted because she’s a woman! This is absurd!”
When contacted about the hypocrisy, Princess Anne’s office sent the following response, “Haters be hatin’ cos they can’t get with this swag.”
The Vice-Chancellor’s office was contacted for comment. They offered none, but overheard on the phone was a secretary asking, “Is he still here?”
Stephen Fakename, a third year Geology student, struggled to care when asked about the situation, but after Flipside offered him a pint in exchange for an insightful quote, he pondered for a while before offering, “Aren’t half the bullshitty positions in EUSA elections only contested by one person?”
