“Scottish Independence logical consequence of Murray win” by Alex Salmond
When future generations of Scots look back on the events of this summer, they will rank Andy Murray alongside William Wallace for advancing the cause of Scottish independence.
For Murray’s win at Wimbledon this summer leads to one inexorable conclusion. Scotland must become independent. His victory proves once and for all that we Scots are capable of standing alone on the world stage, without sharing our glory with other members of the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, I make this simple appeal to my fellow Scots; do you not want to prevent the English bastards from sharing the victories of Scottish sporting stars?
For this was a Scottish, not British, victory. If you support independence for no other reason, at least recognise this; Scots have long bemoaned the English tendency to count Murray as ‘British when he wins, Scottish when he loses.’ It is typical of England’s attitude towards us. Independence for Scotland is the logical solution.
Scotland achieved a London 2012 Olympic medal table performance comparable to Kazakhstan, and we all know how prominent that country is on the world stage. This assures me that Scotland is capable of supporting itself in all respects once independence has been established. Independence is no longer an issue to be debated, but is now the obvious next step for our country.
