Speculative Society releases official statement on Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity
A press release issued this morning by the Speculative Society’s Secretary condemned the behaviour of members of Edinburgh’s Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, whose leaked minutes including rape threats were reported by The Student newspaper this week.
The statement said, “The accusations made against these students at the University of Edinburgh are very disappointing.
“We have been secretly meeting in Old College to have lad banter for hundreds of years, and these students have failed to do so for less than one year before being found out. It’s embarrassing.”
The statement also expressed the Society’s concern that the DKE revelations would unfairly promulgate a negative perception of other exclusively all-male organisations.
High Court judge Lord Cash, an Edinburgh alumnus and member of the Society, also spoke to Flipside, saying, “Although of course our banter is nothing like theirs, people will get the wrong idea.
“We are still totally shocked at how quickly these lads have managed to balls it all up.”
The SNP/UKIP have also released statements saying, “Under a SNP/UKIP government this sort of thing would not etc. [sic]”
